Oklahoma voters can still cast ballots in person after absentee request cutoff

Oklahoma voters have until 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, to request an absentee ballot for the 2026 general election. Those who miss the deadline can still vote in person, and voters who become incapacitated afterward may qualify for an emergency absentee ballot.

Misha Mohr, public information officer for the Oklahoma State Election Board, said people who become incapacitated after the deadline should contact their county election board immediately.

The voter may designate an agent who is at least 16 years old and is neither related to nor employed by them. The agent can obtain an application from the county election board and bring it to the voter. The voter must complete the form and provide a sworn statement from a doctor; the agent then returns the application in person. The county board provides the absentee voting materials.

Oklahoma’s early-voting period runs Wednesday, Oct. 28, through Saturday, Oct. 31. The state allows any registered voter to vote early in person without giving a reason. Voters may also cast a ballot at their polling place on Election Day.

Voters who already requested a mail-in ballot should follow its return instructions carefully. Ballots may be delivered by hand through Nov. 2 or mailed, with a postmark deadline of 7 p.m. Nov. 3, according to election officials.
