University of Tulsa plans staffing changes focused on central administration

The University of Tulsa has reduced its workforce by 9% as part of a restructuring officials say is intended to improve students’ experience, simplify operations and reduce expenses.

The university said the changes will primarily affect central administration and include leaving some vacant positions unfilled. It did not eliminate faculty positions, and it said students should not experience a negative impact.

Some employees’ job descriptions will change, and the university plans to revise reporting structures to reduce overlapping work and improve efficiency. The announcement did not specify how many people will lose jobs or how much the changes are expected to save.

The university said it is continuing to assess its operations while focusing on serving current and future students. The staffing changes were announced in Tulsa on Oct. 15, with an update the following day.
