INTEGRIS agreement would place Oklahoma hospital system under Risant Health
INTEGRIS Health has agreed to make Risant Health its parent, pending regulatory approval. The Oklahoma system’s CEO says its name, leadership and day-to-day operations are expected to remain unchanged, while potential effects on care costs and services are still unclear.
Oklahoma City-based INTEGRIS Health has signed an agreement to become part of Risant Health, a health organization backed by Kaiser Permanente. The deal requires regulatory approval, and no completion date was announced.
INTEGRIS CEO Timothy Pehrson described the arrangement as a change in the system’s corporate parent rather than a conventional sale. He said no money changed hands and called it a “member substitution.” INTEGRIS had been governed by its own board; under the agreement, Risant would become its parent organization.
The nonprofit system is one of Oklahoma’s largest private employers, with about 13,000 employees. It operates 10 acute-care hospitals, 10 specialty hospitals, clinics and urgent-care facilities.
Pehrson said patients should not expect an immediate change in the INTEGRIS name, leadership, doctors or clinics. He said the partnership is intended to provide clinical tools, supply-chain savings and access to lower-cost capital, with savings reinvested in Oklahoma.
The agreement does not promise an immediate reduction in medical bills. Pehrson said the goal is to improve affordability by changing how care is delivered, rather than producing a specific across-the-board cut. The scale of any savings, and how they might affect patients, were not detailed.
Pehrson said INTEGRIS pursued the deal as a strategic choice, not a response to financial distress. He said the system hopes the partnership will help improve health outcomes in Oklahoma, which he described as aiming to move from 45th to 35th in health rankings by 2035.
The agreement’s practical effects on patients, employees and the availability and cost of services will depend in part on regulatory review and how the organizations carry out the partnership.
