Fake ballot texts circulate as Tennessee early voting opens

The Montgomery County Election Commission is warning voters about fake text messages claiming poll workers are writing on ballots and disqualifying them, as early voting begins across Tennessee.

The commission said the messages are fraudulent and that the county does not use paper ballots. It urged residents to share the warning.

Early voting for the Nov. 3 general election began Wednesday, Oct. 14. Tennessee voters will decide races for governor, the U.S. Senate and House, the state legislature, and some local offices.

False claims about how ballots are handled can create confusion during an election. Voters with questions should seek information from their local election commission rather than rely on unsolicited messages.
