Daron Hall’s departure sets up a Davidson County sheriff appointment and 2027 election
Nashville Sheriff Daron Hall left office Monday after 24 years in the role and 35 years with the department, moving to the private sector. Metro Council plans to appoint an interim sheriff in November, and voters will choose the next sheriff next year.
Nashville Sheriff Daron Hall’s final day with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office was Monday, Oct. 19, ending a 35-year career with the department, including 24 years as sheriff.
Hall is leaving for the private sector. He was elected to a seventh term earlier this year and is both the youngest person ever elected sheriff in Nashville and the city’s longest-serving sheriff, according to the department.
Hall said the decision to leave had come up before, but that earlier circumstances did not feel right. He said the office had capable leaders in place and that he would work to ensure a smooth transition, including after his departure.
The Metro Council is expected to appoint an interim sheriff in November. The sheriff’s office will appear on the ballot next year, giving Davidson County voters the chance to elect a successor.
The transition comes amid another leadership change in state corrections: Tennessee Department of Corrections Commissioner Frank Strada resigned following the failed execution of Christa Pike. The state department will also have an interim leader, according to the report.
