Two Antioch teens identified after fatal Blue Hole Road crash
Metro Nashville police identified 17-year-old Yosgar Joshue Cortez as the passenger killed in a fiery crash; 16-year-old driver Diego Perez Lopez had been identified earlier. Investigators say the car overturned and caught fire after leaving the road near the Antioch Park Community Center.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Metro Nashville police have identified the two teenagers who died in a single-car crash in Antioch over the weekend: passenger Yosgar Joshue Cortez, 17, and driver Diego Perez Lopez, 16.
Police identified Cortez on Thursday. Lopez was identified earlier in the week. Both died after the black Infiniti they were in crashed on Blue Hole Road, near the Antioch Park Community Center.
According to investigators, two Southeast Precinct officers saw the Infiniti traveling at a high rate of speed and going through a red light at Blue Hole Road and Bell Road at about 3:30 a.m. The officers tried to stop the car but were unsuccessful. A short time later, they found it overturned and burning in a wooded area.
The preliminary investigation indicates the Infiniti crested a hill, lost control, crossed the double yellow lines and left the roadway before striking a tree. It came to rest upside down and caught fire, police said.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. Police have not announced further details about what caused the driver to lose control.
