State and local health officials are investigating a suspected foodborne illness outbreak at the Walmart Distribution Center in Lebanon. Emergency responders said 19 people were taken to hospitals after 25 to 30 people received care at the site.
Health officials are investigating a possible foodborne illness outbreak tied to a meal at the Walmart Distribution Center in Lebanon, Tennessee, after 19 people were transported to area hospitals.
The Tennessee Department of Health said it is working with the Mid-Cumberland Regional Health Office, the Wilson County Health Department and Walmart. The investigation centers on the distribution center on Hixson Boulevard.
Wilson County Emergency Management Agency officials said about 25 to 30 people received care at an on-site triage area. Nineteen were taken to hospitals, the agency said.
Officials have not identified what food was served, when the meal took place or what may have caused the illnesses. “Foodborne illness is caused by consuming contaminated food or beverages,” state health department spokesperson Bill Christian said in a statement. He said the department was working with Walmart and had no further details to share.
Walmart has said it was cooperating with emergency management and health officials and that the health and safety of its associates is a top priority. The investigation is ongoing.
