South Nashville I-65 reopens; Hamilton Street bridge work continues
Interstate 65 reopened Sunday evening after crews demolished the damaged deck of the Hamilton Street bridge. Drivers should expect additional overnight closures as construction on the replacement bridge continues through an expected December completion.
Interstate 65 in South Nashville reopened Sunday evening, Oct. 18, after crews finished demolishing the damaged deck of the Hamilton Street bridge, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
The highway had been closed over the weekend to allow the demolition, part of preparations to replace the bridge. TDOT had initially planned to reopen I-65 by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, but the work wrapped up earlier than expected.
The bridge replacement is not finished. TDOT says drivers should anticipate intermittent overnight closures while crews build the new bridge deck. The closures are expected between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., and the project is anticipated to be complete in December.
