Robertson County mourns longtime public servant Billy Vogle

Former Robertson County Mayor Billy Vogle has died, county officials reported Saturday, Oct. 24. His cause of death was not immediately known; he had been battling cancer.

Vogle served eight years as mayor, completing his term in August, after 20 years on the Robertson County Commission. In August, state Sen. Kerry Roberts presented him with Senate Joint Resolution 1102, recognizing his public service and placing it in Tennessee’s permanent historical record.

The Robertson County Chamber of Commerce said Vogle missed only one of 416 meetings during his time as mayor.

Communities across the county shared tributes Saturday. Cross Plains officials described Vogle as a dedicated public servant who offered support and guidance, while Greenbrier officials praised his commitment to residents and his ability to bring communities together. The White House Area Chamber of Commerce remembered his humor and his devotion to the county.

The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office also offered condolences, recalling Vogle and former County Commissioner James Bowens as leaders who cared deeply about the county. Bowens was being laid to rest Saturday, the office said.

Vogle is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cindy, as well as children and grandchildren.
