Police say stolen-car pursuit in East Nashville led to five arrests
Five teenagers were arrested in East Nashville on Wednesday, Oct. 14, after police spotted two vehicles reported stolen and pursued one of them through the neighborhood, according to Metro Nashville police. Detectives saw a Jeep Compass reported stolen Oct. 12 traveling with a 2024 Kia sedan reported stolen the following day. Police believe the Jeep was used in the Kia’s theft, authorities said. After the vehicles split up, a police helicopter followed the Kia to the 800 block of South 6th Street. With help from the aviation crew, officers deployed spike strips near Shelby Avenue and South 8th Street, police said. Two 17-year-olds and a 14-year-old ran from the Kia but were quickly apprehended. Officers recovered a handgun from one of the 17-year-olds, authorities said. The Jeep stopped in the 500 block of Fatherland Street. Two 18-year-olds inside were taken into custody. All five were charged with vehicle theft and evading arrest. The two 18-year-olds also face three counts each of contributing to the delinquency of minors, according to police. Both remained jailed on $31,000 bond. Authorities did not immediately release further information.
