Baldwin, Johnson and Pocan offices report suspicious mail in Wisconsin
Three more members of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation said their offices received suspicious letters Monday, days after a hazmat response at Rep. Gwen Moore’s Milwaukee office. Federal investigators are examining the mail; no hazardous material has been found at any Wisconsin office so far.
U.S. Sens. Tammy Baldwin and Ron Johnson and U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan reported Monday that their offices had received suspicious mail, adding to a series of incidents involving elected officials’ offices in Wisconsin and elsewhere in the country.
Johnson’s letter was sent to his Milwaukee office Monday afternoon. Spokespeople for the lawmakers said they believe the incidents may be connected to similar cases nationwide.
The reports came days after a hazmat response near U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore’s Milwaukee office. Authorities have not found hazardous material at any Wisconsin office involved in the incidents so far.
The FBI and U.S. Postal Inspection Service are investigating the mail. Officials have not publicly identified what was in the letters or said whether the incidents are confirmed to be connected.
