A 15-year-old Milwaukee boy is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the Sept. 19 shooting death of classmate Cameron Bowen, 16, near Layton Boulevard and Greenfield Avenue. Robbiel L. Stokes is accused of firing six shots at Bowen after the two got off a Milwaukee County Transit System bus, according to the criminal complaint. Stokes had not been arrested as of Sept. 25, and an arrest warrant had been issued. The complaint says the teens’ conflict began with a fight at Bay View High School on Sept. 16. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses. Their accounts indicate Bowen boarded the bus first, with Stokes getting on later. The two sat near each other toward the back and had a heated conversation before leaving through the rear doors at the stop. Outside, Stokes allegedly took a handgun from his sweatshirt and began shooting. Witnesses told investigators Bowen ran in front of the bus as the shooter chased him and continued firing. Bowen collapsed in the street and died from multiple gunshot wounds, the complaint says. A friend told investigators he was on a video call with Bowen shortly before the shooting and heard an argument in the background. The friend also said Bowen had recently been suspended after confronting a student over a stolen item. School officials identified Stokes as the student involved in that earlier dispute, according to the complaint. The complaint also says Stokes’ mother told authorities he called her after the shooting to ask for a ride. She said he was soaking wet from the rain and appeared nervous. Investigators found a .40-caliber casing in her vehicle that they said matched the brand and caliber of casings recovered at the scene. The allegations have not been proven in court.
