Florida early and mail voting approach 2.8 million ahead of Nov. 3 election
Nearly 2.8 million Floridians had voted by Monday morning, as early voting became available in all 67 counties. The total is more than one-fifth of the 7.8 million ballots cast in the 2022 midterm election.
Nearly 2.8 million Floridians had cast ballots by Monday morning ahead of the Nov. 3 general election, with early voting now available statewide and mail ballots adding to the total.
About 1.38 million voters had voted in person at early-voting locations, while roughly 1.4 million mail ballots had been returned. The combined figure is more than 20% of the 7.8 million votes cast in Florida’s 2022 midterm election, when turnout was 53.8% of registered voters.
All 67 counties are required to offer in-person early voting from Saturday through Oct. 31. Most counties began offering the option earlier last week.
Among in-person early voters, just over 600,000 were registered Republicans, about 505,000 were Democrats and 242,000 had no party affiliation. Roughly 34,000 voters registered with third parties also voted early.
The party breakdown for returned mail ballots leaned the other way: Democrats had returned about 604,000 ballots, compared with just over 500,000 from Republicans. About 265,000 voters without a party affiliation and 34,000 third-party voters had also returned mail ballots.
Republicans have a registration advantage of about 1.5 million among Florida’s 13.7 million registered voters. The early voting and mail-ballot figures reflect ballots cast so far, not the final results or total turnout for the election.
