Miami man charged after children report days without food, sheriff’s office says

A 40-year-old Miami man was arrested Tuesday on two counts of child neglect after authorities said children in his home reported going days without food and being confined to their rooms.

Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputies went to the home for a welfare check. According to the arrest report, the children said they were allowed to drink only water from the shower and had to use a bucket in their room as a bathroom. They also told family members they had not been fed for days, the report said.

The report said Louis believed the government was “putting stuff in the food.” Authorities also said the children had been taken out of school the previous August and had not returned or been homeschooled.

Louis appeared before a judge Wednesday. His bond was set at $5,000, and the judge ordered him to have no contact with the children. The allegations have not been proven in court.
