A 10-year-old girl was taken to a hospital Thursday afternoon after her 8-year-old brother threw a knife that struck her in the chest during a dispute over pizza, Lauderhill police said.
Officers responded at about 3:30 p.m. to a home in the 2900 block of Northwest 56th Avenue after the children’s mother reported that her daughter had been injured, police said. The girl told officers she was cutting pizza when her brother became upset because he had not received a piece. He took the knife and threw it at her, according to police.
The mother told officers she had gone outside to get the mail. When she returned, she saw her daughter running from the apartment with a bleeding chest, police said.
The girl was conscious and breathing when fire rescue workers took her to Broward Health Medical Center. Investigators said she had a small cut to her chest.
Police said they remain in contact with those involved. No charges had been announced as of Thursday, and the investigation was continuing.
