MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin residents who purchased certain generic prescription drugs over a 10-year period may be eligible for money from a preliminary settlement involving alleged price fixing by drug manufacturers. The Wisconsin Department of Justice announced the settlement Wednesday, saying consumers who bought qualifying medications between May 2009 and December 2019 can check whether they are eligible to file a claim. Wisconsin and 47 other states allege that dozens of generic-drug companies worked together to discourage competition and increase prices. The first lawsuit in the broader litigation was filed about a decade ago, and courts granted preliminary approval this month for settlement funds to begin being distributed. “​​We remain committed to working with other states and continuing to seek accountability in this matter,” Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said in a statement. “We take very seriously allegations that prices were manipulated. It’s particularly important at a time when so many Wisconsinites are concerned about affordability issues.” The settlement is not the end of the broader litigation. Several other cases against drug manufacturers remain pending, according to the Wisconsin DOJ.
