WAUSAU, Wis. — Republican Wisconsin gubernatorial nominee Tom Tiffany and the pilot of a small plane were treated for minor injuries after the aircraft made an emergency landing in Lake Wausau, Tiffany said Sunday. Tiffany said the plane lost power while approaching Wausau Downtown Airport after he returned from a La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner. The pilot then brought the aircraft down on the lake. After the landing, Tiffany and the pilot called 911. Tiffany said they left the plane and swam toward shallow water as the aircraft began to submerge. Emergency responders reached them by boat, and both were transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital. In a statement, Tiffany thanked the pilot, the Wausau Fire Department and other first responders for getting them off the water and to medical care. He said the experience underscored “just how precious life is.” The aircraft was identified as a four-seat Beechcraft Bonanza. No additional injuries were reported in the information released Sunday. Tiffany, a Republican member of Congress, is campaigning for governor in Wisconsin’s 2026 general election. The emergency landing occurred as he traveled back from a party fundraising and political event in western Wisconsin.
