MADISON, Wis. — Madison police are seeking public help as they investigate a fatal shooting early Saturday near the state Capitol. Two days after the shooting, investigators had not identified a suspect, police said Monday.
Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of South Pinckney Street after a report of a large fight and possible gunfire. They found a man with a gunshot wound and took him to a hospital, where he died. Police have not publicly identified him.
The department’s Violent Crimes Unit is reviewing digital evidence, contacting people and gathering witness statements, Lt. Glenn Davis said. Investigators are also developing leads, he said.
Davis urged people who were in the area to contact police even if they believe investigators already have the information. The investigation remains in its early stages.
