A man was arrested after a four-hour armed standoff Friday night in Stoughton that began with a report he had pointed a gun at a group of juveniles and threatened to kill them, police said.
Officers were called around 10 p.m. to the 800 block of West Jefferson Street regarding Jerred Baty, according to the Stoughton Police Department. When officers attempted to contact him, police said, Baty went inside and threatened to shoot an officer, police dogs and police drones. He also claimed to have improvised explosive devices, authorities said.
Police evacuated nearby homes and established a perimeter. Baty surrendered peacefully after about four hours, the department said.
He was booked into the Dane County Jail on multiple felony charges. Police did not specify the charges.
The response included the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and police departments from Madison, Oregon, Middleton, Verona and McFarland, as well as the Wisconsin State Patrol and Stoughton EMS.
