A road worker was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Pflaum Road in Madison shortly after 1:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, police said. The crash happened in front of Sennett Middle School. Police said speed appeared to be a factor and that the driver left the scene. Investigators had identified a person of interest and were in contact with them. Police were also looking into whether a second vehicle was involved. Pflaum Road was closed in both directions while traffic investigators worked at the scene. Police said they would coordinate school releases for Sennett Middle School and La Follette High School. A neighborhood resident said drivers should pay closer attention around road crews, noting that workers are focused on doing their jobs and are vulnerable to passing traffic.
