MADISON, Wis. — A new Madison child care center is offering a round-the-clock option for parents whose work schedules do not fit traditional daytime care. Moe’s Care Bears opened earlier this month under the leadership of owner and founder Moneisha Dorsey. The center provides care 24 hours a day for children ranging from 6 weeks old to 13 years old. The program is designed for families working overnight shifts, extended 12-hour shifts, weekends and holidays. Staff are available to supervise children after school, including those arriving by bus, as well as children who need to stay overnight while their parents work. Dorsey, a mother of six, said her own experience balancing parenting with nontraditional schedules helped shape the center’s mission. She said conventional child care hours do not meet the needs of many working families. “People work 12-hour shifts, and the range of schedules is so diverse,” Dorsey said. “There’s no way a traditional daycare can accommodate most families.” She said the goal is to give parents a dependable place where they can feel confident their children are safe and supported while they are on the job. The center’s opening comes as families with evening, overnight and weekend work can face limited child care choices. Dorsey said providing care regardless of a family’s schedule is central to the service Moe’s Care Bears is intended to offer.
