Four children were injured Thursday afternoon when a vehicle struck an Amish buggy in Marquette County, and the driver was later arrested after initially leaving the crash scene, authorities said. The crash happened shortly before 3:45 p.m. on County Highway O in the Town of Buffalo, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. Two Amish buggies were traveling west when the lead buggy began turning onto 12th Road. A vehicle then collided with the turning buggy. All four children riding in the buggy were injured. Two were taken to hospitals for treatment—one by medical helicopter and the other by ground ambulance. Authorities have not released the children’s ages or their conditions. The second buggy was not involved in the crash. The sheriff’s office also did not provide an update on the condition of the horse pulling the struck buggy. The driver of the vehicle left the area after the collision, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies later located and contacted the driver, who was arrested and booked into the Marquette County Jail. The driver’s name was not released. The case is expected to be referred to the Marquette County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation remains active, and investigators said additional information will be released when appropriate. Marquette County EMS and Montello Fire/Rescue assisted at the scene.
