Chippewa Falls to host public farewell for Trooper Bradley Ritger Friday
The public can pay respects to Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper Bradley Ritger at a Friday visitation in Chippewa Falls; a private service for his family is planned for Saturday. Gov. Tony Evers ordered state flags lowered to half-staff on Saturday in Ritger’s honor.
A public visitation for Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper Bradley Ritger is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Chippewa Valley Bible Church in Chippewa Falls. A private visitation and funeral service for his family will take place Saturday, Oct. 10, with the service set to be livestreamed beginning at 11 a.m. on WEAU’s website, Facebook page and YouTube channel.
Ritger, 29, died Oct. 2 from injuries sustained after a traffic pursuit. His patrol cruiser is scheduled to be moved to the church Friday morning and will remain there through Saturday’s service.
A memorial has formed outside the State Patrol headquarters in Eau Claire, where community members have left flowers and cards on a patrol vehicle. Capt. Craig Larson, commander of the patrol’s northwest region, said the public’s support reflected Ritger’s service both on the job and in the community.
Gov. Tony Evers ordered Wisconsin flags lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Saturday. He said Ritger had been dedicated to public service and that his death was a loss felt by family, colleagues, friends and state workers.
The Wisconsin Troopers Association is raising money for Ritger’s family. The Wisconsin Troopers Benevolent Foundation said the fund had collected nearly $60,000. Foundation president Glenn Jones said the effort is intended to help ease financial pressure while federal line-of-duty death benefits are processed, a process that can take months or years.
