Jefferson County plans first drive-through voting site at Expo Center
Voters will be able to cast ballots from passenger vehicles at the Kentucky Exposition Center during early voting and on Election Day. The county says the new option is intended to add convenience and accessibility, with more procedural details to come.
Jefferson County voters will be able to cast ballots without leaving their cars for the first time this fall, under a new drive-through voting plan announced by County Clerk David Yates on Oct. 20.
The service will operate at the Kentucky Exposition Center during early voting Oct. 29-31, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Election Day, Nov. 3, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Drivers will enter through Gate 4 on Crittenden Drive and follow signs to the South Wing, where voting will take place indoors. Voters will stay in their vehicles as election workers provide instructions and assistance along the route.
More than one eligible voter may vote from the same vehicle, but each must be seated beside a window so workers can conduct the process securely. People seated in middle seats will not be able to vote from those positions.
Voters arriving in larger vehicles, including buses and paratransit vehicles, can park in Lot B and use a walk-in option to reach the South Wing. The operation is expected to involve more than 60 election officers, 10 Clerk’s Office employees and Louisville Metro Police officers handling traffic and security.
Yates said the county is introducing the service as another way to make voting more convenient and accessible, while evaluating whether it can improve the process. Officials said they will release additional information about specific voting procedures closer to the election.
