Two women killed in wrong-way collision on I-15 south of mile marker 55
A Hyundai traveling against traffic struck a Honda head-on early Oct. 9 on Interstate 15 in Clark County; the Honda was then hit by a semi-truck and caught fire. Both car drivers died at the scene, while the truck driver was uninjured.
Two women died after a wrong-way crash involving three vehicles on Interstate 15 in Clark County early Friday, Oct. 9, Nevada State Police said.
The crash occurred at about 3:20 a.m. south of mile marker 55. Investigators said a 2014 Hyundai Sonata was traveling south in the highway’s northbound lanes when it struck a northbound 2025 Honda Civic head-on.
The collision sent the Honda across two lanes, where it was hit by the left front of a 2024 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The Honda was pushed back into the northbound lane and caught fire, police said.
The Hyundai’s driver, Keondranique Dyshae Young, 30, of Las Vegas, died at the scene. The Honda’s driver, Nicole Marie Klunker, 27, of Littlefield, Arizona, also died at the scene. The semi-truck driver was not injured and stayed at the crash site to speak with investigators.
Nevada State Police Highway Patrol’s Southern Command has investigated 53 fatal crashes resulting in 59 deaths so far in 2026, according to figures the agency described as preliminary. The totals may change as investigations and coroner reports are completed.
