Pedestrian Critically Injured in South Las Vegas Boulevard Crash; Driver Booked on DUI Charges

A 29-year-old Las Vegas man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning after a vehicle struck him on South Las Vegas Boulevard, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:51 a.m. south of South 4th Street. Police said the man was standing on a sidewalk ramp at the crosswalk to South 4th Street when a northbound Mercedes left the roadway and hit him.

The vehicle then continued along the sidewalk and struck a palm tree before coming to rest partially in the road and partially on the sidewalk, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to UMC Trauma and admitted for ongoing care.

The driver, 68-year-old Robert Bush of Laguna Hills, California, was also taken to UMC Trauma for treatment of moderate injuries, according to police. Officers determined Bush showed signs of impairment and booked him into the Clark County Detention Center on DUI charges.

The crash remains under investigation.

Pedestrian injuries remain a persistent concern on Las Vegas Valley roadways, where wide arterial streets and high traffic volumes can leave people on foot especially vulnerable. The Saturday morning collision occurred near a marked crosswalk, a location where pedestrians are typically presumed to have the right of way.

Police did not release additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash or whether speed was a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
