New shops and 151-unit housing project reshape Henderson’s Water Street
HENDERSON, Nev. — New businesses and housing are changing the historic Water Street District as Henderson moves forward with its redevelopment strategy. Among the recent arrivals is Terminal 4 Bar, whose international drink menu includes cocktails inspired by destinations around the world. Manager Yeshua Estrada said some people were surprised to see a business of its kind open in the area and urged residents and the city to help make Water Street a hub for local businesses and services. Plan 9 Body Piercing also recently moved to Water Street. Owner Kelly Rivera said the area’s sense of community helped draw the business there. City officials say changes to zoning rules have given businesses greater flexibility. Under the revised approach, applications that meet the city’s standards can be approved across a broader range of permitted uses, a city official said. Housing is part of the redevelopment as well. The 151-unit Watermark building is nearly fully leased, according to the city. Officials acknowledged construction delays but said the problems have been resolved. The city is continuing to work with longtime residents as development proceeds and says it plans to attract more businesses while completing its strategic redevelopment plan. The changes are bringing new activity to Water Street, while the district’s future will depend in part on how the city balances growth with the needs of its existing community.
