A student was arrested Tuesday after administrators found a firearm on the Desert Oasis High School campus in Las Vegas, Principal Ian Salzman told families in a letter.
Salzman said Clark County School District Police were contacted and arrested the juvenile. The letter said there were no direct threats to students or staff.
The school said district policies and procedures are being followed and that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. The letter did not identify the student or provide details about the firearm or how it was found.
Salzman urged families to talk with students about school safety and encouraged them to report concerns through Nevada’s SafeVoice program. Reports can be made by calling 1-833-216-7233, visiting the SafeVoice website or using its mobile app.
The district had not provided additional details in the information available Wednesday.
