Basketball Hall of Famer Artis Gilmore plans to file Tuesday for an at-large seat on the Jacksonville City Council. His bid would set up a challenge to incumbent Nick Howland in the March 9 first election.
Artis Gilmore, the Basketball Hall of Famer who led Jacksonville University to the 1970 NCAA championship game, plans to file Tuesday, Oct. 13, to run for an at-large seat on the Jacksonville City Council.
Gilmore’s campaign would challenge incumbent council member Nick Howland in the March 9 first election, according to an announcement of Gilmore’s intention to run.
Gilmore rose to national prominence at Jacksonville University, where the Dolphins reached the NCAA championship game in 1970. His planned campaign would bring the former basketball star into local electoral politics.
