Video captures moments before Orange Park High student is pinned by adult
Newly circulated footage shows a student and an adult identified by families as a school employee struggling on the ground before the adult pins the student. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and school district say they are investigating.
ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Video recorded before a student was pinned to the ground at Orange Park High School shows the teen and an adult confronting each other and grappling on the ground, followed by the student punching the adult in the head.
The footage, which circulated online after the incident Tuesday, shows the adult pinning the student about 20 seconds later. The adult’s hands appear near the student’s neck while the student is restrained.
Students and parents who spoke with local television station Action News Jax identified the adult as a school employee. The district has not confirmed the person’s identity or provided details about what led to the confrontation.
An earlier video recorded by a student showed the adult holding the teen down. The student’s mother said that after viewing multiple video angles, she understood the incident began with a confrontation. Several parents have raised concerns about student safety.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating. The school district also said it was aware of the incident and conducting an investigation, but declined to comment.
