UNF disciplinary panel finds Chi Phi chapter responsible for hazing, suspends it through 2031
The University of North Florida has barred its Chi Phi chapter through 2031 after a student conduct panel found violations including hazing, endangerment and drug and alcohol rules. The investigation began after an anonymous complaint about alleged new-member activities during fall 2025.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The University of North Florida has suspended its Chi Phi fraternity chapter through 2031 after a student conduct panel found it responsible for hazing, endangerment and drug and alcohol violations, university documents show.
The university said the chapter continued violating an order while it was under investigation. The inquiry began last year after an anonymous complaint included photos that appeared to show possible new members posing nude, being sprayed with a hose and using drugs during the fall 2025 semester.
Investigators included personnel from UNF’s Title IX office, campus police, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Children and Families. The university did not provide further details about the conduct findings in the information available.
UNF freshman Tyana Levers said hazing should not be treated as a condition of joining a fraternity or sorority. She said students may worry about being pressured to do something to gain acceptance into Greek life, adding, “It shouldn’t have to be that way.”
The university said student safety is a priority and that it takes strong, swift action on hazing. All students involved in Greek life at UNF are required to complete hazing-prevention training.
