Fever dismiss GM Amber Cox after two seasons and back-to-back sixth-place finishes

Indiana has fired general manager Amber Cox after the Fever finished sixth in the WNBA standings in both of her seasons leading roster construction. Her tenure included a franchise-record 28 wins in 2026, a deep 2025 playoff run and Aliyah Boston’s contract extension, but also signings and deals that drew criticism.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever have fired general manager Amber Cox after two seasons, a move announced the same day team president Kelly Krauskopf stepped down.

Cox joined Indiana after the 2024 season, replacing Lin Dunn, who moved into a special-adviser role. Before taking the Fever job, Cox was chief operating officer of the Dallas Wings.

Indiana had three All-Stars — Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell — during Cox’s tenure, but finished sixth in the WNBA standings in both 2025 and 2026. The team reached the playoffs each year but did not earn home-court advantage.

The roster moves under scrutiny included the Fever’s 2025 signing of veteran DeWanna Bonner to a $200,000 contract. Bonner played nine games for Indiana before leaving for personal reasons. The team later waived her after it could not find a trade partner. Cox also negotiated multiyear contracts after a new collective bargaining agreement took effect ahead of the 2026 season; some players did not match the expectations attached to those deals.

Cox’s record also included notable successes. In 2025, six Fever players suffered season-ending injuries, including Clark. Cox brought in midseason replacements Odyssey Sims, Aerial Powers and Shey Peddy, who helped Indiana reach Game 5 of the WNBA semifinals. She also helped secure Boston’s contract, which keeps the forward with the Fever through 2029.

Indiana set a franchise record with 28 wins in 2026. Across the 2025 and 2026 seasons, the Fever went 52-36 and posted a 5-6 playoff record.
