Man dies after shooting at Lafayette Road shopping center

A man died after being shot Friday evening in the parking lot of a shopping center at 4150 Lafayette Road on Indianapolis’ northwest side, police said.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers and medics were dispatched just before 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23. Officer Drew Brown said officers in the area heard gunfire and soon found the man critically injured inside a vehicle. Medics pronounced him dead.

The shopping center is across Lafayette Road from the former Lafayette Square Mall and includes grocery, furniture and paint stores, as well as restaurants. Police said no businesses or other property were damaged.

Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident, Brown said, but had not determined the circumstances. No one had been detained, and family members were at the scene as officers gathered information.
