Pueblo police say gunfire at apartment complex injured two officers; suspect dies
Two Pueblo police officers were injured and a suspect died after an exchange of gunfire at an apartment complex late Saturday, according to the Pueblo Police Department. Police said they received a report of a home invasion at about 11:09 p.m. on Oct. 10. Officers went to the 1600 block of Gaylord Avenue, where they were told the suspect had left. Officers later found the suspect’s Dodge Ram near Jones and Brimmer avenues, police said. The man fled, leading officers on a pursuit. After he abandoned the truck on Regency Boulevard, he ran to an apartment complex and entered an upstairs unit, according to police. Police said officers knocked and identified themselves before the suspect opened the door, and gunfire was exchanged. One officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The department said the second officer was also injured but did not provide further details. Medical personnel treated the suspect at the scene, but he died. The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office is expected to release his identity. The 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave under department policy. Police have not released further details about the reported home invasion or the events leading up to the gunfire.
