Fog disrupts morning flights at Denver International Airport
Heavy fog led to ground stops and delays at Denver International Airport for roughly eight hours Tuesday morning. By 10:30 a.m., at least 127 flights were delayed, though none had been canceled.
Heavy fog around the Denver metro area disrupted flights at Denver International Airport early Tuesday, prompting ground stops and delays that lasted until mid-morning.
Airport officials said they received an alert from the Federal Aviation Administration around 2 a.m. They then notified airlines and managed the flow of aircraft arriving at and departing from the airport. During a ground stop, planes cannot take off or land, and aircraft already in the air must remain aloft until they can safely land.
The disruptions added at least 1 hour and 15 minutes to wait times for some passengers boarding or leaving planes, airport officials said. By 10:30 a.m., the ground stop and delay notices had expired. At least 127 flights had been delayed, with no cancellations reported at that time.
Airport spokesperson Keylen Villagrana urged travelers to check their flight status before leaving home. “The last thing you want to do is arrive at the airport and realize there's a long delay,” Villagrana said. “Even before heading out of the house, check for delays or cancellations.”
