Columbine softball coach arrested after golf cart crash at Clement Park

Columbine High School head softball coach James Santaniello was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a golf cart incident at Clement Park over the weekend, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

South Metro Fire Department crews responded Saturday after assistant coach James Scott fell from the cart onto a bike path and hit his head. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Sheriff’s deputies went to the scene after first responders reported that someone there appeared intoxicated and was arguing. Investigators said Santaniello and Scott told deputies they had been at Wingstop and then decided to ride in a golf cart.

According to sheriff’s office documents, Santaniello was driving while Scott was a passenger. Scott tried to get out while the cart was moving and fell, injuring his head.

Authorities drew Santaniello’s blood and sent it for testing before arresting him on suspicion of DUI. The information released did not include test results or details about any charges filed.
