Aurora blaze spreads from garage to attic, leaving four residents displaced
A fire early Saturday on East Vassar Avenue seriously injured one person and heavily damaged a home. The American Red Cross is assisting four residents who were displaced as investigators work to determine the cause.
One person was hospitalized with serious injuries after a fire tore through an Aurora home early Saturday, Oct. 10, leaving four residents displaced.
Aurora Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to the home in the 20,000 block of East Vassar Avenue shortly after 12:07 a.m., following multiple 911 calls, department spokesperson Samantha Hickerson said in a release.
Firefighters found flames in the garage, where a vehicle was inside. The fire had spread to the home’s second floor and attic. Eighteen fire and emergency services units responded, and crews brought the blaze under control in about 30 minutes, Hickerson said.
All occupants had evacuated before firefighters arrived. Three people were assessed at the scene for possible injuries; one was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The house sustained heavy damage. The Red Cross is helping the four residents who were displaced. Aurora Fire Rescue is investigating what caused the fire.
