Wyoming firm starts withdrawing as agent for LLC named on Texas transgender flyers
Northwest Registered Agent says it is beginning the process of resigning from its role with Texas Transgender Student Union LLC, whose name appears on flyers mailed to Texas households. The Wyoming filing address offers little indication of who created or sent the mailers.
A Wyoming registered-agent company said Oct. 22 it was beginning the process of withdrawing from its role with Texas Transgender Student Union LLC, a newly formed business named on controversial transgender-related flyers mailed to households across Texas this week.
Northwest Registered Agent provided the service used to form the LLC and listed its Sheridan address as the company’s business address, according to state business records. After being asked about the flyers, the firm said it was “immediately beginning the process to officially resign” as the LLC’s registered agent.
The flyers list Transgender Student Union LLC as the sender but give a Houston-area return address that is not genuine, according to the report. It remains unclear who created, funded or mailed them.
Northwest said its work is limited to receiving official notices and forwarding them to clients. The company said it had no knowledge of or involvement in clients’ business operations and could not know a client’s intentions when forming a company.
The Sheridan address used by the registered-agent service, 30 N. Gould St., is associated with more than 300,000 limited liability companies, despite Sheridan having a population of just over 18,000, said Georgia Lodewyk, a reporter for The Sheridan Press who covers Wyoming’s registered-agent industry. She said people often assume businesses using the address are based in Sheridan, though they may have no connection to the city.
Wyoming’s business-friendly laws and privacy protections have made it a popular state for forming LLCs. In this case, the address does little to clarify who is behind the Texas mailers, which have drawn attention online and renewed debate over transgender issues during the election season.
