Pritzker to Step Back from Public Events for Final Follow-Up Procedure

Gov. JB Pritzker will undergo a scheduled outpatient urology procedure Monday and temporarily pause public appearances while he recovers, his office said Friday. The procedure is the last follow-up to a similar one in May that was later complicated by a minor issue requiring a brief hospital visit.

Pritzker to Step Back from Public Events for Final Follow-Up Procedure

SPRINGFIELD — Gov. JB Pritzker will temporarily step away from public events next week while he recovers from a scheduled outpatient urology procedure, his office announced Friday.

The procedure is set for Monday and is the final follow-up to a similar outpatient urology procedure the governor underwent in May, according to a spokesperson. Pritzker will continue carrying out his official duties while limiting public appearances during his recovery.

"The Governor will continue fulfilling his duties and pause public events while recovering," his office said in a statement. "The Governor is grateful for well-wishes and looks forward to resuming public events soon."

The May procedure was described at the time as routine, and Pritzker's office said then that he would pause public events for about a week while resting. Roughly two weeks later, a spokesperson said the governor experienced a "minor complication" and was taken to a Springfield hospital, where he was treated and released. No ambulance was needed, and details of the complication were not disclosed.

The upcoming pause is expected to be brief, though the governor's office did not specify how many days he would remain out of the public eye. Pritzker, a second-term Democrat, has maintained a busy public schedule in recent months, including appearances tied to state economic development efforts and national political engagements.

For Illinois residents, the announcement is a reminder that even routine medical care can require a short step back from public life. The governor's office has stressed that he remains fully engaged in his duties, and there is no indication of any broader disruption to state government operations.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates on the governor's recovery and his return to public events.
