Jon Roth, 43, was arrested after investigators searched his Huntley home Tuesday and examined electronic devices seized there, police said. The charges allege the material depicted children younger than 13. The allegations have not been proven in court.

The investigation began after the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force shared information with Huntley police from a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children system. Police said the information concerned a phone number registered to someone in Huntley that was attempting to upload potential abuse material to a cloud-storage service.

Huntley police worked with investigators from the Illinois attorney general’s office, Illinois State Police and Wisconsin authorities to carry out the search warrant. Roth agreed to go to the police department while investigators examined the devices, police said. He was arrested based on evidence obtained during the search.

District 158 Superintendent Jessica Lombard told the school community the district had no information indicating the material was connected to a district student, and no reason to believe it was. She said a bus aide assigned to Roth’s bus had not reported concerning conduct.

Lombard said Roth was immediately taken off all duties and placed on leave after the district learned of the charges. He is also prohibited from district property and events during the investigation. The district said it would support law enforcement and prioritize student safety.

Roth is expected to appear in court next week. Anyone with information about the case can contact Huntley police at 847-515-5311. Anonymous tips can be submitted at 847-515-5333.
