Fuel leak and truck crash snarl westbound I-80 near LaGrange Road

A multi-vehicle crash involving at least three semitrailers disrupted westbound traffic on I-80 near LaGrange Road in the south suburbs Monday morning, blocking multiple lanes and contributing to heavy backups.

The collision happened during the 8 a.m. hour. A passenger vehicle may also have been involved, and one of the semitrailers was leaking fuel, according to traffic updates. The extent of any injuries was not reported.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use St. Francis Road or U.S. 30 as alternate routes. Illinois Department of Transportation images showed traffic backing up near the crash site.

The westbound crash followed an earlier traffic problem in the same area: a disabled semitrailer had been causing congestion on eastbound I-80. Details about the cause of the crash and how long the lanes would remain blocked were not available.
