Gunfire follows Corvette crash at York County state-line scene; injuries unclear

A South Carolina officer-involved shooting followed a Corvette crash Wednesday near the North Carolina state line, prompting a large law enforcement response along Lloyd White Road in York County, south of Gastonia.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed the shooting late Wednesday afternoon and said there was no danger to the public. The agency had not said whether anyone was shot, whether the incident involved only shots fired, or whether anyone was injured.

A neighbor told local television reporters he heard the car speed past and then crash into a ditch in a yard. He said he drove toward the scene in a side-by-side vehicle to help, but saw police surrounding the car. According to the neighbor, officers shouted for the driver to get out before shots were fired. He said he took cover behind his vehicle.

Neighbors estimated the incident happened around noon. Officers remained at the scene hours later, and authorities restricted access to the area. Investigators said they would release more information when it became available.
