Gastonia man remembers fiancée after fatal home shooting; police seek suspect
Pamela Shanks, 68, was shot and killed at her Gastonia home Monday. Her fiancé of 30 years says he rushed to find her after hearing gunfire as investigators searched for the shooter.
GASTONIA, N.C. — Pamela Shanks, 68, was killed in a shooting at her home Monday afternoon, leaving her fiancé of 30 years grieving as police investigate and search for a suspect.
Albert Webber was near the front of the residence when he heard several shots. His daughter ran through the house to tell him what had happened, and he hurried to the back, hoping Shanks had survived. He found her in a chair near the back door.
“I’m going to miss her,” Webber said, remembering Shanks as “a lovely person.”
Relatives said the couple’s foster son had argued with an acquaintance before the gunfire and that the dispute may have been connected to the shooting. That account has not been confirmed by investigators.
Police collected evidence at the home while working to identify and locate the shooter. No suspect information was included in the details released about the investigation.
Wanda Jackson, a friend of Shanks, said the person responsible should be held accountable. “Justice needs to be served for whoever did this,” she said.
