Former Healey aide LaMar Cook jailed again after new federal fraud charges
A Massachusetts judge revoked LaMar Cook’s bail Thursday, sending the former gubernatorial aide back to jail as he faces federal allegations of fraudulently claiming food assistance. Cook is also facing state drug-trafficking charges.
LaMar Cook, a former aide to Gov. Maura Healey, was ordered back to jail Thursday after a judge revoked his bail in the wake of new federal charges alleging he fraudulently received food assistance benefits.
Federal prosecutors charged Cook, 46, on Wednesday with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program fraud and wire fraud. They allege the Springfield resident falsely reported having no income and less than $100 in his bank account to obtain nearly $550 a month in SNAP benefits.
Cook had been released after a federal court hearing Wednesday afternoon. He is also facing drug-trafficking charges in Massachusetts. The federal allegations are charges, not findings of guilt.
