Signal work will disrupt Green Line service across Boston on Halloween weekend
The MBTA plans Green Line shutdowns Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 for underground signal upgrades, affecting service near several Boston campuses. Shuttle buses and other transit options will be available, but trips could take about 25 minutes longer.
Green Line riders should plan for service disruptions across Boston on Halloween weekend as the MBTA carries out underground signal upgrades on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
The shutdowns will affect service from North Station and at Babcock Street on the B branch, Kenmore on the C and D branches, and Heath Street on the E branch. The affected routes serve areas around Berklee College of Music, Boston University, Boston College, Emmanuel College, MassArt, Simmons University and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
The MBTA recommends using shuttle buses and Orange Line trains to travel between affected stops and Copley Square in the Back Bay. Riders should allow about 25 extra minutes for their trips. The 39 bus, which serves the E branch, and the 57 bus, which serves the B branch, will be fare-free during the disruption. Commuter Rail service between Lansdowne and South Station on the Framingham/Worcester Line will also be free.
Green Line service is expected to resume the following week, before another closure from Nov. 7 through Nov. 15 to complete the signal upgrades.
