Five Hospitalized After Five-Vehicle Pileup on I-93 North in Wilmington
A five-car crash on Interstate 93 northbound in Wilmington early Sunday morning sent five people to the hospital with injuries that authorities say are not life-threatening. State police are still investigating what caused the pileup, which briefly forced northbound traffic off the highway at Concord Street.
WILMINGTON, Mass. â Five people were taken to the hospital Sunday morning after a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 93 northbound in Wilmington, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The collision was reported around 6 a.m. One person from each of the five vehicles was transported to a local hospital, police said. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
While emergency crews worked at the scene, state transportation officials and Wilmington police diverted northbound traffic off the highway at Concord Street. All lanes had reopened by 7 a.m., roughly an hour after the crash was first reported.
State police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The early-morning wreck briefly disrupted the northbound commute on a stretch of I-93 that carries heavy traffic between Boston and the Merrimack Valley. Drivers were routed through local roads around Concord Street until the scene was cleared.
Authorities did not release the names or conditions of those hospitalized. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that could assist investigators is encouraged to contact Massachusetts State Police.
