Dana-Farber and Beth Israel shift breast cancer care starting Oct. 19
Dana-Farber’s outpatient breast oncology services and breast cancer surgeries will move into a new arrangement with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center beginning Monday. The shift is part of Dana-Farber’s expanding partnership with Beth Israel after its split from Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will begin providing outpatient breast oncology care through a new arrangement with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on Monday, Oct. 19, while breast cancer surgeries will take place at Beth Israel Deaconess, Dana-Farber said Thursday.
The change moves Dana-Farber’s breast cancer services away from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a longtime partner, and toward Beth Israel. The two institutions announced their partnership in 2023. Under the new arrangement, Dana-Farber will handle outpatient breast oncology services, and Beth Israel Deaconess will provide the surgeries.
The shift is part of a broader realignment among major Boston health care institutions. Dana-Farber broke with Brigham, one of Mass General Brigham’s flagship hospitals, to pursue a partnership with Beth Israel and build a cancer-only hospital. The new hospital, a joint project, is slated to open in 2031.
Beth Israel Deaconess is part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, Massachusetts’ second-largest hospital network. The arrangement further positions the system alongside Dana-Farber as it competes with the state’s largest health system, Mass General Brigham.
