Former Cubs assistant GM Jared Banner joins Baltimore’s baseball leadership
The Orioles named Jared Banner, a longtime baseball operations executive who most recently worked as an assistant general manager with the Chicago Cubs, to the same role in Baltimore. He will work alongside executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias as the club plans for 2027 and beyond.
BALTIMORE — The Orioles have hired Jared Banner as general manager, adding a baseball operations executive with more than 15 years of experience to a front office led by executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias.
The team announced the appointment Monday, Oct. 19. Banner most recently served as an assistant general manager with the Chicago Cubs, a position he held starting in 2024. He joined the Cubs in 2020, first working as vice president of special projects and later as vice president of player development.
Banner also spent 11 years with the Boston Red Sox and worked for the New York Mets, giving him experience with teams across the American League East as well as in the National League.
In a statement, Banner said he was drawn to Elias’ vision for the Orioles and looked forward to building on the organization’s existing foundation. He said his goal was to help create a championship team in Baltimore.
Elias praised Banner’s work across multiple front-office departments and said he expects the hire to help the Orioles develop and improve their baseball operations. The team said Banner will work closely with Elias as it builds toward 2027 and later seasons.
The Orioles plan to introduce Banner at a news conference Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
