Student arrested after gun recovered at Woodlawn High School

A student was arrested Wednesday after a loaded gun was found at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore County, police said.

Officers arrived at the school at about 10 a.m. after receiving reports of a potential fight and searched the building, according to police. The firearm was not fired, and no students were injured.

In a message to the school community, Principal Yalonda Booker said two students had a verbal altercation and staff separated them. Reports that one student might have a weapon prompted a search. The school’s resource officer recovered the gun, and the student was arrested. Additional county police officers also responded.

Booker said the matter is under police investigation and that the student will face school consequences as well as law enforcement action. She said counselors are available to students who need support. The investigation remains ongoing.
