Austin-Bergstrom outage disrupted terminal systems and delayed flights Tuesday
A power outage disrupted baggage claim, ticketing and other operations at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Tuesday evening, delaying some arriving and departing flights before full power was restored by 8:10 p.m., airport officials said. The outage began around 5:18 p.m. and affected parts of the Barbara Jordan Terminal, including the baggage claim area and ticketing hall. By about 7 p.m., the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint was operating and baggage claim was back online; airline ticket counters were also beginning to resume service. Power to the terminal was restored by 7:25 p.m. The airport said the Blue Garage and its administration building were still being serviced at that point but remained operational on backup generators. The airport reported full restoration, including those areas, by 8:10 p.m. Parking was not affected. Airport and Austin Energy crews responded to the outage. The airport urged travelers to check directly with their airlines for flight updates as carriers adjusted arrivals and departures. Officials did not identify the cause of the outage or say whether it was connected to construction underway at the airport.
